PIC-MICRO-X Kit
Kanda PIC Starter Kit is a PIC development and training kit for PIC16F and PIC18F PIC microcontrollers. Unlike other PIC kits, it gives a structured approach to learning PIC microcontroller programming, with a book based on the PIC development board included in the kit.
The Kanda Get Going with... PIC Microcontrollers book starts with basics like number systems and logic, and develops learning about the PIC microcontroller and how to program it in assembly language before moving on to C programming. You will learn everything you need to develop your own projects.
The Kanda PIC Starter Kit is also ideal for PIC development as the programmer, debugger and board all support most 8, 14, 20, 28 and 40-pin PIC16F and PIC18F families. The board gives access to all peripheral functions of the PIC, which simplifies development.
PIC Starter Kit features

Operating Systems
MPLAB X and PICkit3 programmer/debugger support all Windows Operating Systems, including 64-bit versions. MPLAB also works in WINE for Linux, and 32 and 64-bit Linux MPLAB X version is available free from Microchip.
PIC Microcontroller Device Support
MPLAB and PICkit3 programmer and debugger have support for all PIC Microcontrollers. The hardware board can be used with most 8, 14, 20, 28 and 40-pin microcontrollers.
If you are in doubt, check in your device datasheet that your device has this pinout.
PIC Starter Kit Board Features
The hardware board has sockets for 8, 14 and 20-pin, 28-pin and 40-pin PIC microcontrollers. It includes power and clock circuitry, and all ports are brought out to pin headers for easy connection of accessories, such as LCD, Keypad and 7-Segment display or your own prototypes. It has 8 switches and LEDs plus support for UART, I2C EEPROMs and ADC circuits.
The 40-pin PIC16F887 and PIC18F4221 microcontrollers included in the kit both fit into the 40-pin socket.
MPLAB X and PICkit3 Programmer and Debugger
MPLAB X is a very good development environment with editor, assembler, C compilers and simulator all built-in, which simplifies the learning process and allows fast development. The PICkit 3 programmer and debugger included in the starter kit runs from the MPLAB environment allowing you to single step through your code, watch register changes and run to breakpoints for effective debugging.
PICkit3 is also a programmer for loading the PIC microcontroller with your finished code, and this can run from within MPLAB environment. It also has separate programming software, which is quicker and simpler to use for production programming.
Other Options
If your budget is a little higher, we supply a PIC Kit trainer that includes LCD and keypad accessories:
PIC Kit Trainer
If you already have a PIC programmer, the board is also available on its own, with connector for PICkit programmers and ICD2 debuggers (RJ11)
PIC Development Board
Extra PIC microcontrollers are also available, in Chips,ICs and Modules category in left menu.
The only extra item required is a 9-15V power supply, 300mA minum with center positive 2.1mm barrel, see related products
