COM port Redirector for Serial Device Servers
All our Sena Serial Device Servers come with fully licensed COM Port Redirector software that creates
Virtual COM Ports (VCP). This allows every one to continue to use their existing application
programs that use COM ports.
The Serial-IP Redirector runs on your PC and creates virtual COM ports that allow PC applications
to access serial ports on TCP/IP networks as if they were local serial ports.

Overview
The Serial/IP COM Port Redirector creates virtual COM ports that allow applications
to use networked serial servers as though they were local serial ports.
This means that no changes are needed to your application software as you just access a virtual serial port.
VCP Standard Features
- Control Panel interface, activity monitor, and trace display
- Supports virtual COM ports filtering in the Trace window
- Creates up to 4,096 virtual COM ports
- Easily select a large number of virtual COM ports
- Configuration Wizard automates and verifies settings
- Copies a port configuration to any number of other virtual COM ports
- Automated login to Sena device/terminal servers
- Runs as a Windows service, so no Windows login required
- Administrator install option prevents changes by users
- Control Panel settings for DTR/DSR/DCD handling
- Supports RFC 2217, Telnet COM Port Control Protocol
More Information on RFC-2217
SSL/TLS Security Option
- Encrypts TCP/IP connection data
- Selectable ciphers and strengths, up to 256-bit AES
- Provides and validates SSL certificates
- Requires server support for SSL/TLS encryption
Requirements
- Intel-compatible PC, 32-bit or 64-bit (x64) processor
- Windows operating system: 7, Vista, XP, 2000, NT 4, Me, 98, NT/2000 Terminal Server, Citrix MetaFrame
Using networked serial ports in three easy steps
- The Serial/IP Redirector creates virtual COM ports for selected ports from COM1 to COM4,096.
Existing COM ports are automatically excluded.
- Run the Serial/IP Control Panel where each Virtual COM port can be separately configured
to use a particular Sena device server.
- Run your application software as usual

Linux Overview
SENA provides the TTYredirector by Tactical Software(www.tacticalsoftware.com) with all their
serial device servers, embedded device servers and terminal servers. This
is a COM Port Redirector for Linux x86, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora Core, SUSE and Debian.
TTYredirector Standard Features
- Supports user-defined device names, automatically linked to psuedo-tty devices
- Supports server connections with raw TCP/IP, Telnet, or enhanced Telnet (RFC 2127) protocols
More Information on RFC-2217
- Automated login to Sena device servers
- Baud-rate limiting to enforce a specified data rate from TTYredirector to a remote device
- Port close delay for port hand-off applications
- Support Nagle algorithm control to reduce latency for short transmissions and for faster recovery from packet loss
- Server synchronization to prevents data flow until connection to server is fully negotiated
- Automatic reconnection to Sena device servers if the network connection is interrupted and restored
- Employs keep-alive mechanism for faster detection of failed network connections to Sena device servers
- Regulates flow of data to/from device server with network-level flow control
- Initializes remote port baud rate, framing, parity, flow control, and DTR/RTS state
Requirements
- Linux x86 on 32-bit or 64-bit Intel-compatible PC, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora Core, SUSE, Debian
- Unix98 pty driver (included in Linux by default)
